Type AB+ blood is called the “universal recipient” type because a person who has it can receive blood of any type (A, B or O). Since both A and B antigens are present in a person with AB blood, theoretically, the recipient won’t reject the blood.

However, AB- (AB-Negative) blood type is not “universal recipient”.
