After the Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the demonetisation scheme , the Chhatisgarh Government passed a resolution in the state legislative assembly in support of it.
On 15th November 2016 Chief Minister Raman Singh moved a resolution in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly in support of demonetisation. The resolution came up for discussion on 16th November.
The House passed the resolution by 16 votes. While 41 members voted for the resolution, 25 opposed it.
By passing this resolution, Chhatisgarh became the first state in India to welcome the demonetisation scheme of the union government.
Chief Minister Singh also announced to exempt POS (Point of Sale) from the orbit of Value Added Tax (VAT). The device used for plastic money payment had 14% VAT. Now, there would be full exemption of VAT on the POS.
Chhattisgarh had also become the first state to exempt VAT on the POS.
